using pedals with the rectoverb

  Using pedals with any amp can be done  in ways that are better than other ways to optimize effect without loosing tone. The way that i use pedals with my rectoverb is what i will be explaining in this blog. I do not use many time based effects( chorus,delay,reverb) with my amp, i will get more into this later. I do however use more tone enhancing  pedals. How you run these pedals are just as important as the pedals themselves. I am a big believer in pre and post gain eq. I run an Eq pedal between my guitar and amp( pre gain) and also in my effects loop (post gain) This sandwiches the distortion circuit inbetween two e.q.'s in order to have totall control of tone. The pre-gain eq is set with the bass frequency turned down low with a mid boost and a smaller boost in highs(slight frown curve). This helps to clip the distorted circuit with mid tone generating frequencies instead of low one. This trick enhances the harmonic content of the tone. The e.q. in the effects loop actually shapes the tone more obviously. To get a heavy sound do a slight smile curve to get that (scooped ) sound but don't curve it to much.
  I am also running a wah pedal ,compressor, and noice reduction pedal through the front of the amp. While having a bbe maximizer as the last thing in the loop.
  If recording i recommend adding any time based effects to the recorded track within the recording. If playing live it is also best to run any time based effects in the channel of the mixing board that your guitar is pluged into. Only as a last resort should you use these effects in your effects to minimize tone loss. and never,never run time based effects in front of the amp. a chorus pedal may be used in front but nothing else.
